Miranon
Miranon is the name of a communicator who spoke through an Explorer coded SHE in Robert Monroe's laboratory sessions in the 1970s. At the close of an early Explorer 5 session, Monroe asked the presence whether it could be given a name or a number to call it by, and the answer came: "The energy that would best describe me is Miranon." The Explorer series devotes several tapes to the exchange that followed: Explorer 5, an introduction; Explorer 6, levels and planes of existence; Explorer 13, human existence; and Explorer 14, the brain and higher consciousness.
The material people remember most is his description of reality as levels grouped in sevens, each carrying a color: blue, red, yellow, rose, green, purple and white. Blue is a soothing, pulsing entry into a new plane, rose is the level of love where Miranon and SHE could meet, and white touches every other level and holds all color. Monroe called the Explorer 6 recording one of the most interesting descriptions of total reality his team had encountered. Nancy McMoneagle, a former director of the Institute, assembled transcripts and drew the diagram of the seven colors, and Daniel Erickson later collected them in a commented booklet, Focus Levels: Seven Resonant Colors Described by Miranon.
Monroe spoke of Miranon as a friend and one of the Explorers' favorite non-physical beings, and he noticed when the sessions grew easier. Miranon presents himself as a learner too: he describes himself as close to finishing a cycle of his own development, yet says that putting it into words only shows him how much remains. Explorer TC, who also reports contact with Miranon, describes being coached to repeat short phrases and numbers so that personal noise stays out of the way.

Key points
A name given on request
In an early Explorer 5 session a presence speaking through SHE, which the transcript labels an energy-being, was asked by Monroe for a name or number to identify it. It answered that the energy best described as Miranon. A week later SHE reported a beacon of light in a deep spiral that felt familiar. Monroe told her to simply think of the name, and Miranon spoke: it was good to be there, contact was difficult, and she was blocking him without his knowing why.
How the sessions were run
According to Monroe's introduction to Explorer 14, SHE lay on her back in a darkened isolation booth with electrodes attached. By Explorer 5 she was comfortable in Focus 12, where Monroe began the sessions he describes in Explorers 5 and 6. Monroe explains that Explorers learn to speak through their own vocal cords in an expanded state and to reach a confidence at which a blending takes place with another form of intelligence. Early contact was hard: the communicator said SHE needed a period of going very deep, and that it would get easier as trust built. By Explorer 13, Monroe says, Miranon is more at ease with the methods.
Who he says he is
Miranon describes himself as a consciousness on level 46. Asked whether he once existed on this physical Earth level, he says in the compiled Explorer transcripts that he was part of SHE's own entity, that they were close in Lemuria, and that they were later separated. Daniel Erickson's booklet summarizes a session dated October 15, 1975, in which Miranon says a heightened capacity for psychic influence was abused and the shared being split in two. On reaching level 46, he says, he was told to gather back the parts of himself that had separated, and that is why he reached back to make contact.
Explorer 6: from a sudden idea to a diagram
Explorer 6 is a composite of several meetings. With SHE in Focus 12, Monroe suddenly thought to ask her to describe levels 15 through 22, which Miranon had called the levels of human life on Earth. She reported 22 as non-physical, a slowly pulsing blue light, and 21 as faster, physical or non-physical depending on where you focus the energy, plus interwoven colors from 22 to about 28. Monroe thought the idea was his own, but the next week SHE handed him a diagram of the 21 levels of physical matter existence, saying it had come to her and was for him. Miranon returned to explain the pattern.
The seven colors, in order
Miranon says every plane of existence has seven levels, and each radiates a color. Blue comes first, a pulsing, soothing level that eases a consciousness into a new plane. Red is its mirror image with greater intensity, a total immersion in the senses. Yellow develops inner awareness and the mind. These first three are horizontal levels, where a being becomes secure in its plane. Rose, the fourth, is vertical, the beginning of ascension and descent, and its quality is love. Green, the fifth, is a healing light of tranquility and inner peace, and it is primarily a descending level. Purple is the sixth. White, the seventh, is the full circle that touches every other level. The pattern applies to physical and non-physical existence alike.
Monroe's view of him
Monroe called Miranon "our friend" and one of the favorite non-physical beings the Explorers had met. After a session in which the group finally drew a chuckle out of him, Monroe remarked that this might show Miranon still had a great bit of humanness left in him. Miranon, for his part, speaks as a learner, saying that each effort to explain his progress shows him how much remains ahead.
The name reaches other Explorers
Miranon does not appear only in SHE's sessions. Explorer TC, who works with a contact called Thor, reports re-establishing contact with the entity calling himself Miranon and practicing communication exercises, and says Miranon is now at level 48, with more responsibility than 47. A summary of a March 1978 session with Explorer MJL describes a communicator named Zoe as coming from Miranon's brotherhood and answering Monroe's questions about sleep, dreams, sound and emotions. Explorer 9, which presents separate Explorer reports on future Earth changes, is titled on the Institute's channel with Miranon's name beside Thor's.
At the Institute and in print
A 2004 Hemi-Sync Journal seminar report mentions participants walking or jogging down to Lake Miranon, so the name is part of the Institute's own geography. The color model circulates in Nancy McMoneagle's compiled transcripts and diagram and in Daniel Erickson's booklet, built from the Explorer 6 transcripts in the Monroe archives. The recordings and transcripts are on the Internet Archive.
In their own words
Quotes are checked word for word against the recordings and documents they come from. Bracketed words correct transcription errors; “…” marks an omission.
“Is there any means by which we can identify you? Can we give you a name, a number, so that we can use some point of identification, before you go. Energy-being: The energy that would best describe me is Miranon. Monroe: Miranon. Very good. This is much that we needed if we need to call you.”
“One of these points of efficiency is to be able to reach back and speak, utilizing the physical vocal cords, while in … this expanded state of consciousness. Another is to reach a state of confidence where a blending takes place with another form of intelligence, so that this other intelligence can speak … As a result we met and became friends with one of our most favorite non-physical beings, whom you now know as [Miranon], due to popular request, as it were.”
“I thought it was my own idea, but evidently not. When SHE arrived the following week for the next session, she presented me with a diagram, a chart as it were, of the 21 levels of physical matter existence here on this physical earth. She didn’t exactly say how she got this, except to say that it came to her. Also, she indicated that it was for me.”
“The fourth level of the seven is the one that both Leana and I are on, and it is one reason we can have contact with each other. It is the vertical plane. … This plane can either ascend or descend, and therefore we can meet. The color for this plane is a rose color. … The primary quality of this plane is what you call “love”. It is an openness to realities beyond this reality.”
“The color for this level is white. There is no color, or there is all color. And it is the highest level you can attain and still stay in the plane of reality upon which you exist. That is the basic understanding I have of these levels.”
“For this session, we will return to SHE and [visit] with Miranon for questions and answers. As you will note, the Miranon in these sessions is much more at ease, more able to communicate. The reason is, he is more familiar with the methods used, which evidently were as unfamiliar to him as they were to us.”
“He claims that I am very independent, and that doesn't make things very easy. And he's been giving me just little sentences and phrases and numbers and such things that I'm supposed to repeat as I get them, to try to help to remove my noise input to the communication.”
Important things to consider
Reported communications, read as such
Everything about Miranon comes from recordings made in Monroe's lab: what SHE said in an altered state and what Monroe, other Explorers and later compilers said about it. The recordings offer no independent way to verify who or what spoke, or whether the level descriptions are accurate. Monroe's own stance was to present the tapes and let listeners judge; introducing Explorer 9, he invited them to form their own conclusions.
Notice what he says he does not know
Miranon marks the limits of his own account. He says that explaining his progress shows how much remains ahead of him, that he cannot find the right word for how the levels relate in space, and that there are things he is not allowed to tell. Statements that admit gaps are easier to weigh than claims to explain everything.
The Explorers describe their own interference
The files are candid about noise. SHE's contact says at one point that she is blocking him. TC says it was not at first clear who was present, and describes repeating the short phrases and numbers Miranon gives in order to remove personal noise from the communication. For Explorer 9 Monroe stressed that each Explorer reported without access to or knowledge of the other's communication, a basic safeguard against contamination.
The colors are a map, not an exercise
Miranon's levels describe what Explorers reported; they are not themselves a technique. You do not need the colors to use the Gateway program, whose exercises are built around Monroe's numbered Focus levels. Daniel Erickson's booklet sets the seven colors against the Focus levels with diagrams, and works best as a companion to the Explorer 6 transcript.
Names and spellings vary
Transcripts and captions render the communicator as Miranon, Miron, Mirin and Meridan, and SHE's in-session name as Leona, Leana and Liana. Most variants come from automatic captions on the videos. Search with all of them, and confirm spellings against the Archive.org transcripts.
Expect rough audio, and listen in order
Monroe told listeners that the Explorer 5 recording was made for the file, not for sound quality, and that it would raise more questions than answers. A workable order is Explorer 5 for the first contact, Explorer 6 for the levels and colors, Explorer 13 for the question-and-answer sessions, and Explorer 14, The Brain and Higher Consciousness.
Cautions inside the sessions
In Explorer 13 the communicator says SHE should not enter very deep spaces or work with this material at home. Remarks about her physical condition in the early tapes are session content, not medical guidance. Treat the tapes as laboratory recordings made with monitors, not as exercises to copy alone.
Common questions
Who is Miranon?
Miranon is the name of a communicator who spoke through an Explorer coded SHE in Robert Monroe's laboratory in the 1970s. He first appeared in Explorer 5, when a presence speaking through SHE gave the name in answer to Monroe's request for a way to identify it. Miranon describes himself as a consciousness on level 46 who once shared a distant existence with SHE, later became separated from her, and began to reach back after being told to gather the parts of himself that had separated. The Explorer series gives him several tapes, and other Explorers also report contact with the name.
What are Miranon's seven colors?
Miranon's seven colors run from blue to white. Blue is a pulsing, soothing level that eases a consciousness into a new plane. Red is a more intense level of immersion in the senses. Yellow is inner awareness and the development of the mind. Rose is the vertical level of love, openness and unity, where he and SHE can meet. Green is a tranquil healing light. Purple is the sixth. White is the full circle that touches every other level and holds all color. The first three levels are horizontal, he says, and the colors radiate. He says the sequence repeats in every plane of existence, physical and non-physical.
Is Miranon a real being or the Explorer's imagination?
The recordings cannot settle that. They do show a long run of sessions in which Monroe questioned the communicator while SHE was in Focus 12 with electrodes attached, and in which the voice has its own manner, humor and admitted limits. They also show the Explorers' own caution: SHE's contact says she blocks him at times, and TC describes working to remove personal noise from the communication. Monroe described Explorers as volunteers who learn to blend with another form of intelligence and presented Miranon as a non-physical friend. Whether that is a being, a part of the Explorer's mind or something else is for each listener to weigh.
Which tapes feature Miranon, and where can I hear them?
Explorer 5 introduces him, with SHE in Focus 12 and the first naming. Explorer 6, Miranon Levels and Planes of Existence, is the best place to hear the seven colors. Explorer 13, Human Existence, is a relaxed question-and-answer session, and Explorer 14 is titled The Brain and Higher Consciousness. The Institute's title for Explorer 9 names Miranon beside TC's contact Thor, and TC reports sessions with Miranon in other recordings. The recordings and transcripts are free in the Explorer Series collections on the Internet Archive, and the Monroe Institute's YouTube channel carries many of the tapes.
Do Miranon's levels match the Focus levels in Gateway?
They overlap in the lab, but they are not the same thing. In Explorer 6 Monroe counted SHE through levels 15 to 22, which Miranon had called the levels of human life on Earth, and she reported colors and changes of vibration as he counted. The seven-color structure, in which every plane repeats seven levels from blue to white, is Miranon's description. The home Gateway program is organized around Monroe's numbered Focus levels, such as Focus 10 and 12, and you do not need the colors to use it. Daniel Erickson's booklet lines the colors up with the Focus numbers and quotes a Monroe meditation that moves from the blue of Focus 15 to the white of Focus 21, with diagrams from Nancy McMoneagle's compilation.
