Privacy & cookies

Gateway Explorer is an independent Focus State project. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Monroe Institute. For privacy questions or requests, email contact@focusstate.com.

Questions and conversations

When you ask a question, we send your question, recent conversation context and selected source excerpts to our answer provider, OpenAI. This processing is needed to generate the answer you request. Avoid including personal, sensitive or confidential information.

Conversation history stays in the current browser tab’s memory and clears when you reload. We do not save chat messages in our application database. Response storage is disabled in our API requests, but provider security and abuse-monitoring retention can still apply. Reloading the page does not delete provider records. See OpenAI’s data controls.

If you use or share a question URL, the question appears in that URL and may be saved in browser history or hosting logs. Chat submitted through the sidebar does not put your question in the page URL.

Site operation and security

Vercel hosts the site, and Supabase holds our private source database. These providers process network and operational data to deliver and secure the service. To limit automated questions, our server records a keyed hash of your network address and request times. Entries older than two days are deleted when the next question is admitted. That ledger contains no chat messages.

We currently run no advertising trackers, session replay or product-analytics SDKs. We do not sell your questions or use them for advertising. Service providers may retain operational logs under their own policies. See Vercel’s privacy policy and Supabase’s privacy policy.

Your cookie choices

We store your selection in the necessary first-party cookie fs_consent_gateway-explorer for up to 182 days. This remembers your choices for this site. Optional media is off by default. You can accept, reject or select YouTube and Spotify separately, and change your choice through Cookie settings in every page’s footer.

Recordings and third-party media

Archive images and requested recordings may load from Internet Archive, which receives the network information needed to serve them. Opening an original-source link takes you to the publisher’s website. See Internet Archive’s terms and privacy information.

YouTube and Spotify embeds load only after you allow that service and choose to load a player. These providers receive your network address and may use cookies or similar storage for playback and their own purposes. See Google’s privacy policy and Spotify’s privacy policy.

Withdrawing consent removes the active embeds and stops our player controls. It cannot undo requests already sent or erase cookies and records held by another website. Use that provider’s settings or your browser to manage those records. You can still follow ordinary links to the original sources.

Contact and your rights

Emailing us shares your address and message so we can respond. This does not subscribe you to marketing. We keep correspondence as needed to address the request and any necessary follow-up.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information, restrict or object to processing, request portability, withdraw consent, or complain to your data-protection authority. Send requests to contact@focusstate.com. Describe the relevant interaction without sending unnecessary sensitive information. We may need enough information to verify and locate the request.

Our providers may process information outside your country. Their terms describe their transfer arrangements. We will update this page when our processing changes and ask you to review cookie choices when optional purposes change.
