their own stuff, they're doing their inner work. But sometimes it's just you just have to call it as
best you can. Where you feel like they're doing their own inner work but sometimes they can't
mobilize enough energy to get past a certain point in which case and intercession with a soul
retrieval pal animal true that might be really helpful. So it's a really mix and match those so
many Just merely just make one more statement, Sandra Ingerman, who's one one of the
faculty of the foundation for shamanic studies and has, has done a lot of work with Soul
Retrieval talked a lot about people who were trying to get in touch with their inner child. But
from a shamanic perspective, in a lot of the Soul Retrieval she did, she found that if the inner
child was not at home, it was hard to do work there if the inner child was off in non ordinary
reality somewhere and that that much disconnected and so we turn the lost soul part often
allowed them to get enough of themselves together their vitality together in order to take the
next steps.

I have two questions. First of all, what's your interaction, if any, with the Mayo Clinic? And
secondly, what was your relationship with Reiki and with whom did you study?
1:06:00
Wow, okay. I have no connection to the Mayo Clinic. None racked with with you at all. I'm in
Rochester, New York, Rochester Oh, one
1:06:08
Rochester.
1:06:12
So I started working in 76, or started in 76. And it was at with EFA Lombardi, who was a Reiki
Master, or is a Reiki Master out of Chicago. And she eventually moved into other healing
forms. Thank you.
1:06:34
You may have already answered this. Because I was curious what your experience has been
working with the mentally ill if they're, you know, if there are patients that are not too far gone
to hell, but people that are so severely ill, that you can't use. shamanic techniques are just the
opposite that shamanic techniques are the only thing that works. Yeah, how does it fit in? And
I'm curious?
1:07:00
I? It's a good question. Um, my work has, has not been generally with the chronically many
mentally ill, it's been more with people facing life threatening illness. And the woman I told you
about who had attempted suicide, and I called her back inadvertently, was ultimately
successful in suiciding. And, but before she was successful in suicide, and I had found out
about Michael Horner and taken my first workshop, and I actually wondered about and she
was willing to have him come and do an extraction for her and he was prepared to come here
to watch us to do it. But she backed out at the last minute and within a year had had
successfully completed suicide. But I really wondered about that, because she, she did
describe herself waking up in the middle of the night and in her was hurt. Her right hand would
be choking. On she had her her experience of it was that one side of her was, was really out to
get her he was the one that was more most problematic to her. And that caused the impulsivity
and, and the suicidal stuff.
1:08:17
You guessed it, that was a an intrusion of suits, or I
1:08:20
really wondered, you know, she certainly fit the criteria for borderline personality with that kind
of suicidal work and, and all but my, but there was also this other part once I knew about
shamanism was what would rather be will be the problem with at least trying, you know, and
we almost, we almost had that opportunity. It's a shame
1:08:46
Yeah. While doing the best you can technology from the trash. The other case you presented I
was curious, in the case of the woman who had the power animal and the lost soul that you did
retrieval on, you left her on her medication, I was wondering if if you have had the experience
of resolving chronic depression to a point where you could then taper off medicines and then
stop.
1:09:25
Yeah. Yeah. And again, it's it's a, it's a it's something you see what gets resolved and you
support what isn't and you continue it. So for her the medication was very helpful. And she
even in her joyful 24 months that she's had, she has tried to take her the medication and really
found herself destabilizing so went back on it. And for her it's been it's been very successful
even though it's not gotten her off meds
Barbara Bullard 1:10:00
I guess two things. Two weeks ago, I had my first experience of Soul Retrieval in a group
setting. And I didn't even think I needed to do anything like that. So I get down and all of a
sudden, I mean, it was one of the more powerful experiences. I think I've gone through I was
such it blew me away that I didn't even know I needed an experience like that, after so many
years of integrating and whatever. I just have to say or honor the process. Certainly, it a
question. How of of your practice, like, how many people would you say, you do a shamanic
process with versus your more normal practice? And how do you introduce or how does it go
by word of mouth
1:10:48
goes by word of mouth, it goes by my being very opportunistic. After I've worked with
somebody for a time, and we have a good relationship, and there's, they have a sense of trust
in me. So it happens that way, sometimes people will come in and as we're, as we're talking
together, I'll find out that they are in some sort of consciousness work. And then it's quite easy
to introduce it. For some I'll use either a deck of so cards that I work with, or layout, tear things
into use more psychological projective stuff, but it quickly moves into to something else, there's
a there's a psychiatrist that I've just been coming to me for counseling, and he was going on
and on and on about his father, and, and I mean, just really struggling with whatever. And I
found myself saying to him, it was like, it was one of those out of your mouth before you think
about. And I said to him, I said, it seems like your father has a piece of your soul. And he just
stopped in his tracks. And he said, why? And, and you had that kind of defocus glazed look
like something was underway. But um, I try to be very careful. And it's, it's hard for me to not
try and be promoted easily, easily when the right word, if if you're holding a larger model, then
it's to me the process of healing is also a process of educating. And we're, I'm not working as
the one as the fixer anymore. Which was a great transformation to me because I was raised to
be relentlessly helpful. And just to not be the fixer was just this enormous burden off my
shoulders.
Barbara Bullard 1:12:52
Lord, your courage. And being a light out there. I really enjoyed the speech, but I thought, Oh,
how courageous you are. And, yeah, it's nice to hold such a bigger model.
1:13:07
I was curious about it sounds like you have a hospital practice, as well, at least you teach
residents within the hospital
1:13:15
within well.
1:13:18
I was curious and from personal point of view, and I'll be sharing that, that later. But how do
you how do you speak? How do you relate within the hospital environment, about this material
and about this aspect of you? How do you pull it off?
1:13:52
Do you know? There's there's just I think people like Larry Dossey give me a running start.
Now open some windows. I presented shamanism in the medical encounter at Highland
Hospital Grand Rounds. Two years ago, and I already knew that whoever showed up it would
be it would be a screened audience to digest who showed up. But I had this most wonderful
moment afterwards of a resident coming up to me. Very intense, very serious and saying, Dr.
Carson, he said is there any contraindication to a soul retrieval for patients on antidepressant?
It was so delicious. I can't tell you how wonderful it was. And I think that many especially with
with the physicians in training medical students in there The younger they are, as Peter had
said earlier, the old guard is starting to die off. And the younger people are, if we can get them
before they get too fixed in, you know, in this in the the bow on the side pseudoscience
scientific method it helps. And so I, so I dropped the N about mind body stuff, I have some
favorite articles that I like to quote, I'll talk about Dawsey and era one, two, and three. And I'll
share my own experiences, you know, and just say, just to say, Yeah, you know, we need to
do X and Y and Z for this kind of problem. And so that they see me as legitimate. And I'll say,
but, you know, there's this other part of me that's been getting this extra training and
wondering about healing. And I wonder how this model might fit in. So we just kind of get into a
discussion. I don't ask them to too long by it, but just share a little bit about my own struggle
with it. And that often is a nice, bridging way to go.
1:16:13
God, people stayed awake.
1:16:16
Great. Have you ever worked at work? When Andrews? I never have worked with her? I read a
couple of her early books. And Lynn Andrews
1:16:38
Yeah. Yeah.
1:16:43
But I don't know what she's doing now or her anything. She
1:16:48
has a school as well. And that's why I was just wondering about your feedback on that. But if
you don't know, I don't know her. Number.
1:17:01
I will be I'm starting to it's one of those things where you find yourself sitting at 10 or 11 at night
and writing things down and, and I think there's enough starting to pull itself together that the,
I'm sorry, the question was, was I writing a book and I met the stage of gathering, gathering
stories and perceptions and pulling it together. Thank you all very much.
