[0.0-6.0] The Bizarre Sensation of Being Able to Leave His Body, and he liked it so much that he learned to leave it whenever he wanted to.
[6.0-11.0] He wrote a best-selling book about it, which enticed a lot of other astral travelers out of the closet.
[11.0-17.0] Now he says he's built a machine to take anyone out of their body, which should save on airfares.
[17.0-19.0] We asked Jan Kingsby to take a ride.
[19.0-28.6] I had my first out-of-body experience when I was about six. It was absolutely fantastic.
[28.6-37.6] I was pivoting anxiously and awkwardly on the stage when my soul just took off and flew up towards the TV monitors.
[37.6-44.6] The joys and perhaps the exquisite surprises when you become conscious and sell out-of-body state.
[44.6-51.9] To have an out-of-body experience, you don't have to be in advanced yogi or on psychedelic drugs or even have one by chance.
[51.9-54.9] We live in an electronic age. We can all have a go at it.
[54.9-64.9] All you need is 45 minutes of uninterrupted time, a set of stereo headphones, and this Hemi-Sync cassette developed by Robert Monroe.
[79.3-89.3] The initial pattern began when I experienced what was loosely described as a vibrational sense throughout my physical body.
[89.3-93.4] It puzzled me, and that did take me to the doctor, as it were.
[93.4-94.4] What do you mean?
[94.4-103.4] It's like a shaking only. There were no visible signs of the shaking throughout your body, and I thought it might have been epilepsy, but it was not.
[103.4-106.4] I thought it might have been a brain tumor, but it was not.
[106.4-115.9] Anyway, after being tremendously concerned about this shaking state, the next step was that I said,
[115.9-121.9] well, if it's going to kill me, I'm going to wait it out and try to force it, instead of forcing myself to get out of it.
[121.9-134.9] And I was lying in bed one Friday night and waiting for this vibrational state to fade away, and that's when I found myself bouncing against the ceiling.
[134.9-139.9] Monroe is the most important part of the population, which is the most important thing in the world.
[139.9-145.1] I travelled to South Australia and found myself gliding.
[145.1-150.1] I hadn't seen my parents for a couple of years and found myself gliding down the side of their house, down the driveway.
[150.1-156.1] And I entered the back door and saw things on the clothesline and came in through the kitchen and saw my uncle who was visiting from the states.
[156.1-164.1] I saw the things they were wearing, what my mother was doing in the kitchen, and the spotted items in the bathroom that hadn't been there when I was there.
[164.1-170.1] And at the end of the experience, I actually rang my mother and had her confirm everything that I'd seen.
[170.1-173.2] And I got a couple of colours wrong, but that's about it.
[182.9-192.3] I pivoted around awkwardly because I realised he was in the middle of the commercial, and the whole studio audience just broke up laughing.
[192.3-198.3] And at this point, I just suffered such incredible anxiety and not knowing what to do.
[198.3-205.3] But my soul just left my body and flew up towards the TV monitors.
[205.3-217.6] And I watched my empty body, sort of very jerkily, very jerky movements, running back behind the curtain again.
[217.6-224.6] And then I had a sort of moment where I was looking down at the stage, there was nobody on it at all.
[224.6-233.8] And then I saw my body coming back again onto the stage and walking across to sit down to be interviewed by Johnny Carson.
[233.8-238.8] And I've had an out-of-body experience too, a very uneventful one, and it was years ago.
[238.8-243.8] But one night I noticed that my body was lying about three feet below me, quite surprising.
[243.8-248.8] But Monroe was doing it almost at will, and he was enjoying it more and more.
[261.9-269.9] That's wonderful, that was great, that total unification with what you perceived as a female in the out-of-body state.
[269.9-270.9] Can you describe it?
[271.9-284.1] You're asking me to describe a situation that, as if you're asking me to describe a symphony, orchestra, playing an exquisite sonata.
[284.1-287.1] How can I describe that in words?
[288.2-289.9] The
[299.4-306.4] What we developed was a series of sound patterns that create a frequency-falling response in the human brain.
[306.4-310.4] And that means in the electrical activity of the human brain.
[310.4-314.4] And doing this very simply with sound, not electrical stimulation directly.
[316.4-322.7] All aimed at changing forms of consciousness or controlling it.
[333.5-340.5] You will be very active performing what you use as a very important function over here in this other reality.
[340.5-344.5] And you'll get the uncomfortable feeling that something's wrong.
[344.5-351.5] And it's as if somebody's tay up, pulling at your coattails, hey, hey, you say, don't bother me, I'm busy.
[351.5-356.5] And I say, it's important, it's important. What's important? What, what, what?
[356.5-361.5] Oh, I have a physical body. There's a problem back there. Boom, bang, you go.
[361.5-363.5] And what kind of problems are there when you get there?
[363.5-368.5] Very, very profound problems. 90% of the time your bladder's full.
[369.8-371.8] Just want to lie down there and put your head on. Hello?
[371.8-372.8] Please, a water bed.
[372.8-378.2] Ah, yes. Oh, it's lovely. Okay.
[378.2-382.2] Now, what I'm going to do is give you a headset on either side or volume controls.
[382.2-383.2] Yes.
[383.2-388.2] So you can control your own volume. You do not want to have it too loud, just at a comfortable listening level.
[388.2-390.2] Have a good time.
[390.2-392.2] Have a very good time.
[393.2-396.8] Experimental and chipper.
[396.8-405.1] All right, first of all, we'll just have a little fun by playing you a little bit of surf with him sitting behind it.
[405.1-409.1] And that'll be sort of a beginning thing to do. You ready?
[409.1-414.4] I feel so good. About half the gravitational wave that I normally have.
[414.4-416.7] You feel comfortable?
[416.7-418.7] So far, so good.
[418.7-424.9] Well, it's like 2001 spaceship stuff.
[424.9-429.0] Beautiful, inky blue. Points of light.
[429.0-433.4] I'm in a tunnel of light, swimming up it.
[433.4-435.8] There's an aperture.
[435.8-444.6] I'm flying above a world. It's sort of like our world.
[444.6-451.9] Only it's very pure. Flying so fast, I can see the curvature of the earth.
[451.9-455.0] But I'm not so high.
[455.0-459.3] Go down.
[459.3-465.0] I haven't got any weight.
[465.0-473.9] Well, regretfully, I'm going to have to ask you, Jan, to follow me now as I talk to you.
[473.9-476.9] And I'm going to count from ten down to one.
[476.9-485.1] And when I reach the count of one, all of your five physical senses will be operating clearly, cleanly, sharply, beautifully.
[485.1-490.2] You'll be completely wide awake and full of energy, both physically and mentally.
[490.2-496.4] Ten, nine...
[496.4-507.4] But it seems to work, as Amanda Keller found out.
