[00:00:30] aloud conversations on the Leading Edge of knowledge and Discovery with psychologist Jeffrey mishlove hello and welcome I'm Jeffrey mishlove today we are exploring the topic of living with guidance my guest is Frederick Holmes Atwater also known as skip as an Army lieutenant he is the
[00:01:00] one who took the initiative that resulted in the creation of the remote viewing intelligence program we now remember as Stargate after he left the Army he later became president of the Monroe Institute in Virginia founded by Robert Monroe author of Journeys out of the body skip is author of captain of my
[00:01:30] ship master of my soul which is now in its second edition he lives in Virginia and now I'll switch over to the internet video Welcome Skip it's a pleasure to be with you thank you for inviting me I'm excited about this we've got a lot to talk about when I consider your long career you've been involved in this field at least as long as I have been which is uh around half a
[00:02:00] century but your your story actually begins even earlier than that because unlike me and unlike most people you had a childhood which was imbued with an appreciation for invisible influences that help us yes that's absolutely correct um very interesting childhood when I look back but it was my childhood it was normal at the time of course
[00:02:30] let's for example talk about your mother who among her other talents was a Healer yes it was very interesting but again there was a sense that what wasn't everybody that way I mean wasn't everybody's mom like my mom and so she was able to do things um which now I can speak of I'm older now than she she was
[00:03:00] when she died and so it's interesting to reflect back on what to me was normal as a kid and the way she told me things and I was like okay sounds good to me I'm going to go out and play now you know kind of a thing so it was a very normal situation for me and I gather part of it had to do with your par your father was a Christian Scientist you you grew up in the Unity church and then the Church of
[00:03:30] religious science so you always I guess had a sense that the Paranormal is is very normal that was deeply imbued in in you that's an interesting way of stating it I now have a belief system that it was the agenda of my life it wasn't as though I was taught that or it was IM to me your use of the word imbued
[00:04:00] um was it because of the behavior of my parents it was pushed into me and that they created Me by their councel I think it was more of a that was the agenda of my life and we all worked together uh to fulfill that agenda fair enough I I can tell you I felt like my life life has been shaped
[00:04:30] by Guidance a as well but at a very different childhood there was really almost no sense of of the supernatural until I got older when uh after I left home and and went off to college my mother became a yoga teacher oh okay so it happened sort of belatedly and in in my own family but then at at at the same time I I think it's fair to say
[00:05:00] when I look at the whole field of of remote viewing that many of us seem to have been guided I I did a lengthy interview with Russell targ for example who talked about a a huge series of synchronicities that led to the formation of the research program at SRI International a series of synchronicities that's a very interesting way to State it you know it was in the plan you know
[00:05:30] kind of thing yes in my case some of the guidance was very explicit but it came in dreams and and as explicit as it was it was still rather roundabout MH had to wait for absorption of the information but at any rate it after having this unusual childhood you ended up in in the Army and I gather
[00:06:00] that the reason you enlisted was to avoid the draft that was part of it um I had had a couple of years of college by that time and was going around I worked for a uh company called Haggard's down in um LA and there were they had nine different stores and I learned later that the only reason that they had that
[00:06:30] is the wife uh of the owner liked to buy clothing on discount uh and so they had nine stores in Southern California which were millions and millions of dollars then so that she could buy clothing on discount and I right now I can't figure that out anyway I worked there and I went shopping for other jobs I wanted to get involved D in
[00:07:00] a um sort of training program in other retail stores and I had this little background I was working on and the question was always well what's your draft status and I was like well I'm 1A right now but I'm going to go down to UCLA and sign up in UCLA and that'll protect me for a while and as long as I said 18a that time they said I'm sorry we can't hire you because we would be required to hold that job for
[00:07:30] you even while you were gone away in the Army and So after talking to several different retail stores um I said I know how to solve this problem you know if I enlist in the Army then they can't come calling and saying it's your time you've been we've decided to put you in the Army because you don't have any deferments anymore but I was going
[00:08:00] to fool him I was going to join the Army so I went to a recruiter in Glendale California and walked in to the recruiter and said um I can't seem to get a job because I'm a 1A classification so I think it'd be better if I just joined the army and he says well what do you want to do in the Army and I said I have no idea I just want to be able to get a job without the government hanging over me and he she he said well look look over
[00:08:30] there in all these different brochures we have and see if something there you see something there that attracts you that you'd like to do and I did and I picked up this and I picked up that and I was sort of my eye caught um a blue colored little you know threefolding thing and it said Army intelligence and so I picked that up and I said this looks interesting what's this about and he says oh I'm sorry I can't talk to you about that really really what do you mean you can't talk
[00:09:00] to me about it's one of your brochures and you said well if you want to talk to somebody about that I can make an appointment with you with some agents down in Los Angeles but you'll have to go to that appointment and talk to them about making an application and I was like well yeah I'll do that let's make that appointment so that was the designation of my future I was going to joined to avoid the
[00:09:30] draft and I would do if you were drafted you required to go for two years in in the draft and I spent the next 20 years in the Army so I guess I took care of that problem over time you became a an intelligence officer you were advanced again and again you served in Korea you served in Panama and somewhere along the line as you're going through I
[00:10:00] if I remember rightly you were getting more advanced training in Arizona when when you came across the book mind reach by Russell targan and Hal put off and and that seemed to be something of a turning point for you yes uh when I was in Korea myign annual requirement in Korea they let you put in what we call a dream sheet like you're going to list where you want to
[00:10:30] go and it's like it's a dream sheet because nobody really look at this I mean after all and by that time I had a couple of college degrees and was actually teaching college in Korea to other soldiers and then um I decided that I you know I'd really like to go back to the intelligence school which was down in Arizona Fort wuka Arizona because I'd been in the Army 10 years years now and I had personal experience
[00:11:00] with all these things and I'd like to share all those personal experiences with the school down there and plus it's a nice place to live and so forth and so on so sure enough the Dream came true like it wasn't planned you know ahead uh the Dream came true and I wound up down there uh and stumbled across mind reach by Russell tar and how put off
[00:11:30] and by that time I had specialized in lots of Investigations and Counter Intelligence prevention and so forth and so on and the stories I read about in mind reach were about this thing they called remote viewing which turns out it's like remote viewing they're talking about you do this you do this and you understand and you can see other things and not see with his eyes but with
[00:12:00] something else I said I do that they have a name for that called remote viewing well that's kind of interesting so I began to uh talk to my friends there uh Rob coward and we said you know there's a problem here there's a hole in our system of Counter Intelligence we aren't checking on this and if what's in this book mind reach is
[00:12:30] true we need to do something else so I was going to go uh from there to become another little story is there was a lieutenant Ray there who's become a great friend of mine now but he used to walk in every day while I was teaching at the instruction various insundry subjects out at Fort wuka every day he'd walk in and he said said Captain Atwater what are you doing
[00:13:00] here and I said well sir I you know I want to do this and I'm teaching a class uh this afternoon and one tomorrow and one tomorrow afternoon too and he said I told you you ought to go see OCS you have two college degrees you have 10 years of experience here what are you doing here and so he would irritate me like that a couple of times a week trying to poke at me you need to go do something other than this
[00:13:30] um so sure enough I made an application and I got accepted to go and then U the colonel called me and he said I used to be in assignments and I'm impressed with what you've done while you're here at the school what would you like to do when you get commissioned as a lieutenant and you come back here what do you want to do then and I saidwell
[00:14:00] sir I have this book and I held it it's called Mind reach and it's about a different kind of Technology um where people can find out information in a different way that we haven't done yet and I think we're missing a big part of our job I mean it's our responsibility to check on this stuff and he said well I have no idea what this is I'll keep this overnight if you don't mind please make an appointment with my secretary to come
[00:14:30] back tomorrow and we'll talk about this and I said yes sir I'll be back tomorrow and so when I came back the next day he said you're right if this is true if this is what's really happening we need to do something about this we need to expert ourselves in this he said what if you keep your nose clean graduate from the course at Fort Benning come
[00:15:00] back here as a lieutenant we'll get you assigned to the Pentagon you see in the Pentagon as a lieutenant at night you'll run security teams and you'll have all access to the whole Pentagon to check on people to make sure that they have the proper security go find this program I said yes sir yes sir I'll I'll take care of that so time Pastor went on went back came back got the assignment to go to the
[00:15:30] Pentagon and one day it was actually the day I was ready to leave Arizona and drive to the Pentagon and I was like oh man I'm a lieutenant and living anywhere near in Washington DC and anywhere near the Pentagon is a long drive it's very expensive and how am I going to take care of my wife and kids and so forth
