patent in 1975 based upon the use of such saund pulses to induce a frequency following ressonse (FFR) in the huaan drain, This siaply aeans that when your ear hears a certain type of sound signal, it tends to resgond or ‘resonate’ wi ar electrical signals in the brain. Knowing that various electrical brain waves ar2 indicators states of consciousness (such as awake or asleep], you thus can listen ta a si sound pattern and it will nelp you be in the desired state of awareness, Heaisyne ¢ F an important additional step, €ach 2ar sends its dominant nerve signal ta jasite orain Aemisohere, By sending seoarate sound aulses to each ear sing headphones to isolate of the brain aust act in unison to ‘hear’ a third signal, whic he one ear is the gage 18 --- PAGE 12 (OCR) --- UNCLASSIFIED difference between the two signals. for exaaple, if you hear a sound seasuring 10@ (cycles per second) in one ear, and another of 125 in the other, the signal your whole drain will *generate" will be at 25 (cycles per second), [t is never an actual sound, but is an electrical signal created (inside the brain) by both heaispheres acting and working together. if the 25 cps is one that produces a certain type of consciousness (for exasple, sleep), then both heaispheres are focused in an identical state of awareness at the sane tise. Most iaportant, the condition can be changed at will by changing the sound pattern (in order to facilitate variqus states of conciousness). (These states/of awareness) can/also be learned and recreated ) froa sesory (without use of the sounds) when the need arises. The hesisync process has already been tested and put in use in aany ways: for detter sleep, stress-tensian reduction, control of pain, accelerated learning, study and Concentration, rapid psychotherapy, enhanced creativity, problem solving, even for playing a better gage of golf. Peraission to use this aaterial has been sent for, but has act been received at the tise of this writing. 2, Only those selected passages of the sanual which pertain to the definitions useful to this paper are reprinted here, Paraphrasing has been used for brevity, and has been placed within parentheses. In 1974, in Whistlefield Research Laboratories, research studies were being conducted on the effect of environaent on huaan conciousness. The Esalen organization at Sig Sur, California, famous as the birth-place of sany new trends in psychology and philosophy, heard af their work and invited thes to Conduct a week-end workshop at their facility. As a result, there were aany requests to repeat the process elsewhere, Originally called the M-580@ Prograa, sessions were held on weekends at various sites throughout =the United States and Canada. Several thousand individuals froa all walks sf life participated in this constantly evolving series of training exercises. The process was re-naged to the Sateway Prograa, The Monroe Institute of Applied Sciences, Incatad at Nelleys Ford, Virginia is the present site af development of the procedures used in the Gateway Prograa. The Institute had its beginning in the Research and Developaent Division of Monroe Industries, Inc., which at the tige (1958) was investigating aethods and techniques of accelerated learning through practical envircnaental changes. As a result of certain findings, the decision was aade to draoaden the base of such investigations and to alter the ourpase of any such research effort. {n {971, the Institute was created to confora with and expand this different approach. the With this new tool, it decane possible to develog and hold the subject into any of the various stages af sleeg, froa light alpha relaxaion through theta into delta and into REM \dreaging). The Monroe sethod and techniques were found to be able to ‘progras’ sleen cycles throughout the night of sleep, if so desired. Variations could bring adjustaent of the duration of each stage of sleep during the cycle, according to the needs and desires of the individual. The waking-froa-sieen aogent was enhanced qreatly over the traditional alara clock, which had na cognizance af the stage of sleep it was invading. 3y gragragaing the brain's up into REM sleen for the few ainutes before wake-up tise, then inserting a Seta signal, the sieeper sas roused gently yet firaly, without startling shock or dull sleep ‘hangover’, UNCLASSIFIED page {2 --- PAGE 14 (OCR) --- UNCLASSIFIED Further research has developed other uses for the FFR technique. The Monroe Institute has discovered signals conducive to learning, concentrating, sesory retention, recall, and other foras of husan behavior. These signals are available on regular cassette tapes, and can be used by the person who wishes to better his/her perforaance in any area of behaviour. At the request of the Coaaanding General of INSCOM, MG ALN. Stubblebine, two meabers of Field Station Augsburg attended the Monroe Institute froa 25 August 1983 ta Septesber 2, 1993. These two aesbers were $86 Dawn Lance, Greece Detachsent, and SFC Leonard E. Buchanan, OSS8, USAFS, Augsburg. 48 Stubblebine was also in attendance at the training. During that training, General Stubblebine directed 38 Lance and SFC Suchanan to draw up pagers which would outline the possible uses for the heaisync process at FSA. This Paper is a result of that request. [FT
