[7.3-15.1] Questline with your host Peter Wiseback. Good evening and welcome back to the Questline.
[15.1-19.2] Tonight we will explore out-of-body experiences once again with our guest
[19.2-25.3] Robert Monroe. Bob began experiencing spontaneous out-of-body experiences in 1958.
[25.3-30.2] He wrote about these experiences in his book, Journeys Out of the Body, which was
[30.2-35.4] published in 1971. Since that time, Bob has continued his investigations into this
[35.4-40.1] area and others and tells about these experiences in his new book published
[40.1-44.5] this month and called Far Journeys. Robert Monroe is the son of a college
[44.5-49.3] professor and a medical doctor mother. He received his degree from the Ohio State
[49.3-54.2] University after studies in engineering and journalism. Bob entered the radio
[54.2-59.5] broadcasting industry as a writer and director for programs. In 1939 he went to
[59.5-63.7] New York where he was the creator and producer of some 400 radio and TV
[63.7-69.3] network programs in the ensuing 20-year period. After this experience, Bob went on to
[69.3-74.4] form Robert Monroe Productions, which at the peak was producing 28 radio network
[74.4-78.7] shows weekly. He later became vice president of programs and director of
[78.7-84.2] mutual broadcasting system, a position he held until mid 1956. He then became
[84.2-88.8] president of Lorry Associates, which brought him into ownership and operation
[88.8-94.4] of radio stations in North Carolina and Virginia. He also formed Jefferson Cable
[94.4-98.9] Corporation, which as president he guided to the construction and operation of
[98.9-104.0] cable TV systems in Charlottesville and Waynesboro, Virginia, a position he
[104.0-109.7] held until 1976. Bob's major avocation in recent years has been the exploration
[109.7-113.8] and research into practical methods of accelerated learning through expanded
[113.8-118.7] forms of consciousness. To augment such activity he founded the Monroe Institute
[118.7-124.0] of Applied Sciences in 1973. As founder and executive director, Bob still plays an
[124.0-128.7] active part in the Institute. Welcome to the questline, Bob. Thank you, Peter.
[128.7-134.9] Tell me, back in let's say 1955, did you ever think that you would be talking
[134.9-141.8] about metaphysical experiences? It would have been inconceivable from that 1955 viewpoint.
[141.8-147.6] I'll tell you, the one thing that struck me when I read Journeys Out of
[147.6-152.4] the Body and your notes of your own experiences, you were extremely critical
[152.4-159.7] of your own experiences, were you not? Yes, remember that I started baseline zero
[159.7-166.3] in anything that had to do with extraordinary consciousness. Bob, tell us a bit about
[166.3-170.3] that first out of body experience. Do you still remember it? All very vividly.
[170.3-173.8] That's one of the things that does happen when one gets into the out of
[173.8-191.7] body state and one might happens in normal physical life. I have very
[191.7-198.8] difficultly remembered what happened in 1958 in my typical physical life. I can
[198.8-210.1] remember very vividly that first out of body experience. Shortness very much.
[210.1-218.0] At that time in 1958 I was operating my own company. I encountered a very strange
[218.0-226.2] vibration condition and seemed as if my entire kind of a cataleptic
[226.2-233.8] type speed in our state and after that happened several times I became I guess
[234.2-241.0] as to what might be happening. I went to my favorite doctor for examination and he
[241.0-249.1] said all right physically so he said just don't work so hard and I didn't
[249.1-256.3] think I was working before shortness. I gradually became acclimated to this
[256.3-269.4] funny vibrational state being quite still very much concerned and got into it.
[269.4-276.1] Bob, this vibration you're talking about, is it like a pulsating? It's like an
[276.1-280.5] electric shot throughout your body except there's no pain involved. And could
[280.5-285.0] you see any physical vibration or just a sensation of vibration? It was a
[285.0-292.6] sensation of vibration without any such physical or mechanical manifestation in
[292.6-307.0] the body. The time it felt very mechanical, very physical, shaking in
[307.0-314.7] actuality was strictly a thing within the neural life. Bob, did you get the
[314.7-319.8] sense that you were going beyond your skin? Not at that time, no. There was at
[319.8-327.3] one point I was astounded to discover that this appeared in sort of a glowing
[327.3-334.8] sparkling ring that circled my body and swept up and down out of my control. The
[334.8-340.7] only indicators I had of it visually whatsoever again sent me off to the
[340.7-348.1] doctor. Yeah. And it reminded me that he had a son who that might be the way to
[348.1-352.7] go. Did you think that you were having psychological problems? Not as such, no.
[352.8-357.2] I considered it certainly. Unfortunately or unfortunately I had several
[357.2-363.8] psychologists and psychiatric friends at the time. From their point of view I'm
[363.8-371.7] sure that they would have certified. In any event, I got control to the extent that I
[371.7-375.0] said, well if it's going to kill me I'll wait and see what happens if I
[375.0-381.1] leave. So I did and so I didn't die. It faded away after about five minutes.
[381.1-393.1] After that, having lost the fear, it would wait it out until not infrequent
[393.1-397.3] and occasionally it would take place as I would lie down and go to sleep. On
[397.3-406.0] this one particular night, Friday night, and we started sweeping up and down my
[406.0-412.9] body and on that Saturday I was much into sailplaning and gliding at that
[412.9-420.5] time. I expected the following morning to go very very much out of the whole day of
[420.5-424.5] gliding because there was a nice cold front had come through and there was
[424.5-428.9] good ridge lift and good thermal and what I was thinking about as this
[428.9-435.5] vibration was taking place how nice it was going to be close the next day as it
[435.5-445.4] were in a good 126 sailplace. And after a bit of dreaming about how nice that
[445.4-449.3] would be as I waited for this vibration to end, I suddenly felt something
[449.3-462.6] bumping and I was falling asleep and falling out of bed and I was bouncing
[462.6-469.8] and a little closer looked determined that it was not the flow, that it was
[469.8-475.7] the ceiling. And I flops around and sure enough down below me lying in the bed
[475.7-484.9] was asleep with my wife. Were you gripped by fear? Very much. I thought at that point I
[484.9-492.1] really was dying and but before I got to that deep fear I looked in the bed and I
[492.1-496.3] said this is a funny dream. I wonder who I'm dreaming about is being in bed with
[496.3-504.6] my wife. Took her a little closer to standing down and the body in the man
[504.6-511.1] in bed with my wife was me and that really did trigger the fright. I'm now
[511.1-515.7] dying and I don't really think I want to die so I bought myself through the
[515.7-520.9] air as I could, sweeping down, dove back into that physical body and sat
[520.9-527.3] around everything quiet. I looked at the ceiling and I see exactly the position
[527.3-531.9] that perspective I must have had and I didn't sleep anymore that night
[531.9-537.2] thinking of particular problems. That's it began to recur. Bob when you got back
[537.2-542.5] into your body did you have a physiological reaction? Not immediately
[542.6-551.2] but not when I got back but about a minute after I got back I began to get
[551.2-556.8] very much filled with frustration and sweating out what had happened.
[556.8-563.8] So immediate physiological response but when I began to think about it I was as I
[563.8-568.8] can say. Tell me how long did it take you Bob until you confided about this
[568.8-573.2] experience to someone else? Well that particular episode took me back to the
[573.2-579.5] doctor and he saw I was really worried and so we extended the whole all
[579.5-597.5] the way down to and there was not anything psychiatric health.
[670.1-697.8] to
[697.8-705.4] description? Sure. For those who haven't encountered the subject yet, an out-of-body
[705.4-710.8] experience, we call OBE. The old-fashioned name for it perhaps was astral
[710.8-715.7] projection, but we don't use that for the simple reason that we... that's an
[715.7-721.9] old antiquity witchcraft term and we just simply are much too modern, much
[721.9-728.8] too Westernized to take it. We call that OBE, which is out-of-body experience,
[728.8-734.0] and that's become, in these intervening years, that's become sort of a generic
[734.4-739.6] name for this particular state of consciousness and is spread throughout, well,
[739.6-743.3] I guess, throughout the world, and that's how it's OBE, out-of-body experience.
[743.3-749.2] Anyway, it's a condition where you find yourself outside your physical body, fully
[749.2-753.5] conscious, unable to perceive, and act as if you're functioning physically with
[753.5-759.6] several exceptions and times, slowly or somewhere beyond the speed of light.
[759.6-764.5] You're going to deserve, participate in events, make well-for-decisions based on
[764.5-769.4] what you perceive. You can move through physical matters such as meal place,
[769.4-777.0] concrete, earth, even atomic radiation, without going to an adjoining room,
[777.0-782.3] without bothering to open the door. You can visit a friend, say, a thousand miles
[782.3-786.2] away. You can explore the moon, the solar system, the galaxy, if you've
[786.2-792.5] entered through, you can enter into other reality systems only, dimly perceived and
[792.5-801.9] theorized are time, space, consciousness of the world. Fascinating. That help? Yes, would you
[801.9-805.5] mind standing by while we take a break? Oh, yes. Thank you, Bob. You're tuned to
[805.5-809.1] the Questline. Our guest tonight is Bob Munro, and we're talking about out-of-body
[809.1-814.1] experiences. It's a Halloween party at Jimmy's Place. Jim Paterson on main. He can
[814.1-817.4] bob for apples, guest the number of pumpkins, and bring the kids by because
[817.4-819.9] we have light sticks we're giving away. They're absolutely free. We've got a
[819.9-822.9] limited number of them, though, so bring them by right away, and they can carry
[822.9-825.0] these with them on Halloween night when they go trick-or-treating. You got other
[825.0-828.9] other treats? We sure do. We want some of you to come down here and have some
[828.9-832.0] fun with us. Come down in a Halloween costume, make your best deal,
[832.0-835.1] and we'll take another hundred dollars off the price just for coming down and
[835.1-841.4] joining in with some Halloween fun. All right, Jim Paterson on main. David, you come
[841.4-845.3] away from there. Honestly, why do they let those people in here? When you meet
[845.3-849.8] someone who is mentally handicapped at a community center, at a pool, in the park,
[849.8-855.0] how do you react? Are you ready to accept them, or are you just a little
[855.0-859.4] afraid? David, you stay away from those people. You don't know anything about
[859.4-862.8] them. If mentally handicapped people are going to take their places in the
[862.8-871.2] community, it's up to all of us to give them the chance. It's my turn.
[926.9-934.8] You're tuned to the Quest Life with Peter Weisbach on CJOI, the number to call
[934.8-946.5] 731-9192. Bob, welcome back. This is so fascinating. I know we're just not going
[946.5-949.4] to have enough time for all my questions, let alone the questions from our
[949.4-954.6] listeners, but you said you go through physical walls, but could you open up a
[954.6-962.1] door in that state? You cannot open up a door, and it might help beyond that.
